Today I want to talk about Flashcards. I've always been a bit torn about using Flashcards when teaching. I suppose they can be thought of as "old-fashioned", however, I have to say, I have found them pretty effective in certain situations. I've put together a list of Pros and Cons about using Flashcards.

Pros
They help children learn new facts quickly.
They are inexpensive to buy or make.
They are versatile and can be used for various subjects.
They are very portable and you can even make or buy digital versions! Have a look into Boom cards if this is something that interests you!
There are so many activities and games you can do with flash cards.
Cons
They can overburden the brain with too much information.
They can be uninteresting or boring.
They can take the context out of the learning.
Overall, Flashcards can be great for teaching basic recognition of numbers, sounds, facts etc, but for more in depth learning or learning in a certain context other teaching strategies may be better suited. I think it's all in how you use flashcards.
